Overview
The Mill Certificate functionality built in to ChromeInventory is designed to allow you to capture the necessary certification documentation for your raw materials and make it available to your plant operations and customers. This means that your business and your customer can maintain fully traceability over the raw materials used to manufacture products, ensuring quality assurance is maintained through out the product supply chain.
To facilitate this, it is also required that the individual bundles of material received are tagged with a scannable label so that the steel may be identified at later stages during use, linking it to it's supplied raw material data and mill certificates, ensuring compliance with the products relevant QA standards and procedures. This tag can be fitted by the supplier, so long as it is barcode scannable, or created from the Elda (Chrome) Bundle Tags application.
Where an Elda (Chrome) scannable tag is applied to material, the original manufacturer’s label must be retained on the product to ensure traceability.
Depending on your company's key suppliers, the Mill Certificate information you receive with your raw material purchases may not be supplied in an electronic format. If this is the case, you must scan and convert this data so it can be used within the Elda (Chrome) software.
Before you begin
- Ensure you are logged into the Elda(Chrome) ChromeInventory Application. See our article Getting Started with ChromeInventory for more.
- Mill Certificates in Elda (Chrome) must be in PDF Format. Mill certificates can be accepted from your supplier in either printed (hard copy) or electronic form, but must be in/or converted to PDF before Elda (Chrome) can use them. For hard copy certificates, please follow your scanner's standard instructions for creating PDF format electronic documents.
- Ensure to Email the Mill Certificate to ChromeInventory. See our article Email\Upload Mill Certificates to ChromeInvetory for more.
- PDF files should be manually placed in a Public Drive / User scans / Mill Certificate directory set up by your administrator.
- In addition to the Mill Certificates, you will require details of the Heat Numbers and the products that relate to the mill certificates. Heat numbers are usually contained on the actual mill certificate themselves along with details of the relative products as well. Usually, no indication of the bar length is provided so this will usually need to be sourced separately.
Processing Scanned Mill Certificates

Select the appropriate receiver date and rolling date from the date pickers. The rolling date can be obtained from the Mill Certificate. The receival date will usually be today’s date. Enter the name of the steel manufacturer in the name text box.
Enter a shipping reference for the steel. Normally, this would be the inbound vessel's trip reference, but any reference may be used to identify the shipment at a later stage.
3. Enter the Heat numbers and product details of the steel that is related to the selected Mill Certificate.
4. Click Create Shipment to process the Mill Certificate and associated information.
5. Heat tags for the steel bundles may now be printed in the Heat Tag printing system.

2. Prior to creating the pending shipment, collect the heat information from the tags attached to the steel and determine the type and length of the material received.
3. Click the Create Place holder button in the manual Mill Certificate application.
4. Complete the Receival Point, Shipment date, Manufacturers Name fields. Complete the Heat data and material received Grid
5. Press the Save Place holder button to create the shipment.
