Background
Did you ever go on extended leave and when you got back found you'd completely forgotten your password? With Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) this is no longer a concern. After you've registered for SSPR, you will have the ability to reset your password and recover your account without the need to lodge a ticket with your IT Support team. The steps below will take you through registering for the SSPR service. After you've registered, you can follow the steps in our article Recover your Account using Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) any time you forget your password.
Before you begin
- To enable your SSPR setup you will need at least TWO of the following:
- Access to your business phone
- Access to your mobile phone
- An alternate email address (other than your business email)
- You may also need to have the Microsoft Authenticator app installed on your phone. Please see our article Setup Microsoft Authenticator for use with Microsoft 365.
Registering for SSPR
1. To register for SSPR, follow this link: https://aka.ms/ssprsetup.
2. You will be asked to sign in with your business email.
2. You will be asked to sign in with your business login password.
3. You may be asked to enter a code from the Microsoft Authenticator App. If you followed our article Microsoft Authenticator Setup, you should be able to access the app on your phone and retrieve a six-digit code.
4. If this step is required, enter the six-digit code into the Enter code page and click Verify.
5. You may be presented with a page asking if you wish to Stay signed in. Click Yes if you wish to use this feature.
6. You will be presented with a new page asking you to confirm your current password. Click re-enter my password.
7. in the next page, enter your existing password into the textbox and click Sign in.
8. You may be asked again to enter a code from the Microsoft Authenticator App. If you followed our article Setup Microsoft Authenticator for use with Microsoft 365, you should be able to access the app on your phone and retrieve a six-digit code.
9. If this step is required, enter the six-digit code into the Enter code page and click Verify.
10. You may be presented again with a page asking if you wish to Stay signed in? Click Yes if you wish to use this feature.
11. You will then arrive at the Don't lose access to your account! page. From here follow the prompts to set up at least TWO verification methods.
Verify your Office Phone Number
1. To confirm your office phone number, click Verify next to Office Phone is set to XXXXXXXXXX.
2. On the next page, confirm your office phone number and click Call me. You should soon receive a call on this number. Follow the instructions on the call.
Verify your Mobile Phone Number
1. To confirm your mobile phone number, click Verify next to Authentication Phone is set to +XX XXXX XXXX.
2. On the next page, confirm your mobile phone number and click either text me OR call me.
If you click text me, you should soon receive a verification code on your phone. Enter the verification code into your browser when prompted.
If you click call me, you should soon receive a call on this number. Follow the instructions on the call.
Verify your Email
1. To confirm your email, click Verify next to Authentication Email is not configured.
2. On the next page, enter an email address into the textbox and click email me.
PLEASE NOTE: This needs to be an email OTHER THAN your business account email.
3. Check your authentication email. You should have received a new message containing a six-digit authentication code. Return to your web browser. Enter the six-digit code where prompted and click verify.
Finishing up
After returning to the Don't lose your account! page click finish. You should now be verified for SSPR.
You will be redirected to your Office 365 Apps page. You can now close your browser.
